Contents page

My aim of the contents was to just state key infomation in a basic manner. i wanted it to be basic so there are no other off putting infomation and they can easily identify the infomation that they want to see. the yellow background in contrast to the black reds and blues make the font stand out again the use of bold then ittalic on some of the writting makes it stand out even more again. it comes across boring however i found that the vast majority of people feel that many contents pages are to clustered and full of irrelivence and they just want the facts and the figures and that is what i tryed to provide them with and i believe that i have achieved a contents that they wanted. the colour choices i tryed to make neutral so not massivly male orientated and not drastically female. the pictures again very few however are showing main interviews and bands that they will find within the magasine.

Front cover

This is my front cover i have taken my time and have took advantage from my analysis on what and where things would be placed to get the most out of my front cover. i believe that it gets the points across strongly with the contrast of red in the comparrioson of the black as it is a stand out colour and makes a impact on the way that it looks. i have used the main picture to fill the main background due to the quility however it will show the audiance what genre of magasine that it is. i have also placed a few 'teaser' lines in on what may be appeling to the buyer of this magasine to make them want to purchace this such as interviews and big tour dates that will be featured inside. my main aim was to make it stand out and the infomation also, this is why i have picked the dark background in comparrison to the white and red font colour with was bold and itlalic to add the extra stand out factor in my magasine!

my analysis

Above are some front covers, contents pages and double page spreads that have featured in todays most popular musci magasines NME, i have identifyed key strengths and some weaknesses that i can then take forward and push mine to have some strengths while keeping it my own and take there weaknesses and make them a strength on my magasines. one thing i have noticed is the use of a impact colour to strike out any key infomation they will often contrast with the other colour wording around it to make it stand out.

Semniotic theory

Semiotics is the study of signs and the sign processes, it give a relation to likness and symbolism  and the importance of communication. Its structure is closely related to language specifically and it is devided into three branchs.

  1. Semantics- The relationship between signs and what they refer to and their meanings
  2. Syntactics- Relation among signs within their formal structure
  3. Pragmatics- The relation between signs and how they effect people using them

what is the feminist theory

The feminist theory comes from the women movements when they were believed to be from different origens of inequality, in the vast majority of the cases looked at it was aimed at sex, wether they can be sociable or not and ruled by there husbands. the actavists from the movement campaigned for 'Womens rights' this protest was for them to be able to run and purchace land, vote in elections, right to equal pay, oppertunitys in careers and to start own businesses. they also wanted body integrety and reproductive rights as they where faced with domestic violence and sexual harrasment and assualt by there partners.

Qualititive and Quantitive

There are two methods of me finding out infomation from the audiance on what they would like to see in the music magasine of there choice, these methods being qualititve and quantitive.

Qualitative research is a elongeged and is this way by interviews case studies and more questions in detail being asked. It is more specific than quantative research as the results i get are from the persons point of veiw and how they feel about the subject as more personal questions can be asked than what there could be in questionaires as they are retricted to set answers. it has its negatives as it is more expensive to run and due to the ammount of time and equipment needed, due to this i cant gain as many interviews as I would hope due to the prelonged sessions it will invlove getting peoples in depth opinions.

Quantitive data on the other had in 'short and sweet' it gets strait to the point, this means that more people can asnwer meaning i have a broader range of answers, this will be done in the format of questionnaires, this is a set question with a multiplue choice question where it can be ticked on what they believe is the answer, this is quicker however is has its disadvantages, due to it being set questions and stating small ammount of options for answers they wont be able to give thier true opinion in such a manner as they would so wish however it targets a much wider audiance than qualititve but due to the informalitiy of the format it can be seen to be that the results are tailored to what the designers and market what to hear.
I will be running the quantitive format as i can reach a bigger audiance in a shorter time giving me more time to sit down and analyse the results and make a just decsion on what my outcome will be like.
